Volunteering at the local library
Did you know I volunteer at my local library? Surprise! I do.
I go in for several hours each week to help the staff organize books, help patrons, and hold events for the community. I might even get to help them with their website! (It’s in need of a major overhaul.) This not only provides a deep sense of satisfaction, but allows me to give back to the community I live in. I feel that volunteering is an important use of my time and want to continue doing it as long as possible.
The things I learn are things that can’t be taught. Life lessons, life adventures, and more.
Why am I bringing this up on a blog that isn’t supposed to be about my personal life?
Aside from the fact that you might start seeing progress and updates about their new website (which I’m debating doing either Squarespace so it’s easy for them to change in the future, or Webflow, which is a bit more difficult but would be a more beautiful result), I think it’s important to talk about the ways I’m bettering myself that aren’t just “job-related.”
Volunteering is a way in which I use my time wisely, and proof, for me at least, that there is value in the world beyond a screen. Although the screen is where I live and breathe my day-to-day, the library is a good place to be. Surrounded by books, knowledge, and people of all sorts, it’s proof that I’ll never stop learning.
